At a glance
Black Chrome Mine (BCM) is a high-value chrome ore asset strategically located in the heart of South Africa’s Bushveld Igneous Complex.
Situated on the Mooihoek farm in the Limpopo province, approximately 100km southeast of Polokwane, BCM is positioned in one of the most mineral-rich regions globally.

Mining
BCM is designed as a fully mechanised mining and processing operation, integrating advanced trackless bord and pillar underground mining methods with a newly upgraded chrome spiral concentrating plant. This enables the production of approximately one million tonnes of Run of mine or 650 kilotons of high-grade concentrate annually.
The mine’s infrastructure maintains its competitive edge through:
Integrated Run of Mine (ROM) processing
Efficient conveyor systems transport the run of mine ore directly from underground through a sequence of tunnel feeders, a jaw crusher, a cone crusher, the mill feed stockpile and tunnel feeder to the processing plant and ultimately to the tailings storage facility.
Secure water and power supply
A dedicated water supply, sustainable water use management, stormwater and waste water storage, and dedicated Eskom electricity supply means.
Strategic export access
Proximity to Maputo Port (less than 400km by road) facilitates seamless global distribution, ensuring swift access to international markets.
Strategic positioning
BCM is uniquely positioned on the central Eastern Limb of the Bushveld Igneous Complex, one of the world’s largest layered intrusions, renowned for its extensive chromite deposits.
The mine’s resource base comprises approximately 18Mt of chrome ore, with reserves estimated at 9Mt as of August 2020.
The LG6 and LG6A reefs, which dip consistently between 14° and 16° westward, offer a stable and high-grade ore body with a high in-situ grade of over 44% Cr₂O₃ with a Cr/Fe ratio of over 1.5. This superior ore grade ensures cost-effective processing and an exceptional yield of chrome concentrates, making BCM a low-cost, high-margin operation.
